The exotic Bubinga wood is known for its dark tone while Maple delivers rich tone and long sustain. By using Bubinga at the center of the shell with Maple outer layer, this brings out the best tonal characteristics for the wood; a more aggressive attack, and a fuller, deeper tone with powerful resonance.
Each shell was designed to produce maximum tonal characteristics, to perform in as many musical categories as possible. Artisan series drums are made from hand-selected, premium grade North American Maple, and matched by our experts to ensure that every Artisan drum produces superior tonal properties.
Just like a drummer, each type of wood and shell size carries its individual distinct sound and characteristic. That is why it is difficult to find a single drum set that provides all the frequencies that you need in a concert/performance. To achieve this, the combination of Walnut and Birch is used to support bigger size drums for low frequencies. This brings an extra large, bright and voluminous sound to your performance. For small and medium size drums, the combination of Bubinga and Maple are selected for warm and powerful sound. This is a serious drum set for a serious drummer.
